This is How Bad Babar Azam Has Been in Test Cricket

Once regarded as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting unit, Babar Azam has been a shadow of himself in Test cricket over the past year.

Babar, known for his exquisite strokeplay and scoring tons of runs over the past year, has been in a terrible run of form in the longest format of the game.

Babar’s latest exploits in Test cricket, after scoring 30 and 5 in the two innings of the first Test against England in Multan, has left him as one of the most poor performing players in Tests. Pakistan succumbed to a defeat by an innings and 47 runs despite scoring 556 in the 1st innings, becoming the first team to achieve this record in the history of Test cricket.

Babar has now gone 18 Test innings (9 matches) without scoring a half-century in the format.

He is 5th in the list of players with most innings without a half-century. The most embarrassing stat for the middle-order batter is that the list does not include any player regarded as a batter, with all the players with their primary job as a bowler.

Since 2023, Mitchell Starc tops the list as he has gone on a run of 22 innings without at least a half-century with the bat. Australia’s Nathan Lyon, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya and West Indies’ pacer Alzarri Joseph are next on the list with 21, 20 and 18 innings respectively. Jimmy Anderson and Mohammed Siraj have also not scored a 50 in 17 and 16 innings respectively.
