Punjab Announces New Admission Policy for Medical and Dental Colleges

The Punjab government has officially issued the admission policy for medical and dental colleges across the province. This comes after the policy received approval from the provincial cabinet, and was implemented following a notification from the Specialized Healthcare Department on Friday.

A significant change in the new policy impacts students from Islamabad. Only three seats have been allocated for them in Punjab’s medical colleges, ending their eligibility for open merit admissions in the MBBS programs.

This shift has caused disappointment among students from the federal capital, who previously had broader opportunities to compete on merit.

In another development, Narowal Medical College has been granted permission to admit 100 students for the current year, expanding the capacity for medical education in the province.

The application process for government medical colleges will begin on October 21 and run until November 4, 2024. For private medical colleges, applications can be submitted between November 5 and November 19, 2024. Dental college applications for government institutions will open from November 20 to December 4, 2024, with private dental college applications accepted from December 5 to December 19, 2024.

Classes for MBBS programs will start on February 1, 2025, while Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses are set to begin on March 1, 2025. The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will supervise the admissions process for both medical and dental colleges in Punjab.
