The Godfather Names WWE Hall of Famer Among Toughest Opponents

WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather faced off against many of the top names in wrestling during his career. Recently, he reflected on some of the easiest and toughest competitors he encountered in the ring during an episode of “Poddin’ Ain’t Easy.”

When discussing his easier matches, The Godfather mentioned a few standout names. “Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, Fit Finlay, Dave Taylor — I mean, I can keep going, but Owen and Shawn were like a night off,” he said. He went on to praise Hart and Michaels for their ability to sell moves exceptionally well, noting that he would often let Michaels call the entire match because of how smoothly everything would go.

On the flip side, The Godfather recalled two of the toughest opponents he faced during his days as Papa Shango: Bob Backlund and Kamala. He explained that it was particularly challenging to sell their moves. Reflecting on his time against Kamala, he admitted, “Kamala was so much better at his gimmick than I was with mine, that I didn’t know what to do.” He described how Kamala would act frightened of him, playing off his voodoo man persona, leaving The Godfather unsure of how to respond.

In a previous interview, The Godfather shared the story of how he first got involved in professional wrestling while working as a bouncer. Interestingly, it was a movie from Sylvester Stallone that inspired him to take wrestling seriously and pursue it as a career.
